Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) - Funded Projects

The Transportation Improvement Program is a 5-year funded construction program. MAG and its regional transportation partners - UDOT and UTA - fund projects, programs, and studies to improve and expand the regional transportation network. MAG funds about $300 million of the $1.7 billion 5-year program. The TIP is the implementation program of the Regional Transportation Plan or TransPlan50.

Program Process

Identify Needs

Projects begin with regional planning efforts that identify transportation needs, growth trends, safety concerns, and mobility priorities. Proposed projects must be consistent with regional transportation goals and long-range plans.

Project Application and Selection

Local governments and transportation agencies submit applications for funding. Projects are evaluated based on regional benefits, readiness, safety, mobility, air quality, and other criteria. Recommended projects are reviewed through the MPO process before funding decisions are finalized.

Approval

Selected projects are incorporated into the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), a multi-year program of funded transportation projects. The TIP undergoes public review, coordination with partner agencies, and formal approval before projects can move forward.

Project Delivery and Reporting

After funding is approved, projects advance through environmental review, right-of-way acquisition, design, and construction. MAG monitors project progress and publishes annual reports, conformity determinations, and program updates to ensure accountability and compliance.

2026 TIP Project Selection Process

The TIP Project Selection Process started in January 2026, with approval of awarded projects in the summer 2026. Local MPO jurisdictions and transportation agencies were eligible for MPO transportation grants for regional transportation projects, programs, and studies.
