TAG - Technical Assistance to Governments Program

Technical assistance is available to local governments throughout Utah, Summit, and Wasatch Counties for plans and studies that proactively address growth related challenges.  Competitive projects integrate transportation and land use in a meaningful way and align with the region's long-range plans:   Wasatch Choice Vision and  TransPlan50.  

Available Funding

  • Up to $1,000,000 will be made available annually depending on number and quality of applications received.
  • Assistance is provided in the form of consultant services procured by MAG on behalf of the local government.

Park CityMultimodal Wayfinding Plan - This project will establish a unified signage system across transportation corridors, guiding residents and visitors to trails, transit, park-and-rides, and key destinations throughout the City and region. This effort will include vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle-scale wayfinding. In addition to serving local residents and the city’s 3 to 4 million annual visitors, this effort will help the city prepare for the 2034 Winter Olympics.
TAG IV Award: $150,000.  Local Match:  $45,000.  Total Project Budget: $195,000
PaysonDowntown Trigger Site Implementation Planning - This project will advance implementation of the recently completed Payson Downtown Gateway Plan.  Specifically, this effort will result in a concept plan for the intersection of 100 N and Main Street, as well as conceptual designs for several vacant/underutilized opportunity sites on Main Street.  
TAG IV Award: 108,000.  Local Match: $12,000.  Total Project Budget: $120,000
MAG to manage on behalf of Utah Lake Authority (ULA)Southeast Utah Lake Shoreline Trail Site Plans And Conceptual Designs - ULA, MAG, Utah County, Provo, and Springville will coordinate to plan the Utah Lake Shoreline Trail from its current southern terminus (500 West and Lakeview Parkway in Provo) to Lincoln Beach.  This 14-mile project will update the current feasible trail alignment and outline the sequencing needed for future construction and land use planning for trail access.   The two-mile stretch known as “Mill Race” between Lakeview Parkway in Provo and 1400 North in Springville is the next extension of the Shoreline Trail and will receive the highest level of attention and planning detail. 
TAG IV Award: $50,000.  MAG TIP Planning funds (pending approval): $170,000.  Local Match: $50,000.  Total Project Budget: $270,000
OremOrem Union Bench Canal Trail (UBCT) and Utility Corridor Master Plan - This project will result in an actionable Master Plan for repurposing 5.25 miles of the North Union and Provo Bench Canals to a paved regional active transportation trail.  Immediate planning is critical to prevent land fragmentation, legal disputes, and flooding hazards following the canal companies’ pending dissolutions.  Deliverables will include a parcel-by-parcel acquisition strategy, engineering concepts for stacking a trail over utility infrastructure, and a phased implementation plan. 
TAG IV Award: 108,000.  Local Match: $27,000.  Total Project Budget: $135,000.
Fairfield and Cedar Fort Transportation Master Plans - A single consultant will be selected to assist each town in preparing their own Transportation Master Plans.   This effort will build upon recent General Plan updates and the TAG-funded West Utah County Interagency Action  Plan.   These plans will be used to manage multiple planned developments, support roadway impact fee updates, preserve right-of-way for future transportation corridors, and identify supportive land use code changes. 
TAG IV Award: $150,000. Local Match: $15,000. Total Project Budget: $165,000.
Alpine     Development & Municipal Code Update - Building on the recent TAG-funded Main Street & Gateways Plan, this effort will address outdated, inconsistent land use regulations and better coordinate land use with transportation infrastructure improvements.  Through a full code audit, community stakeholder engagement, and targeted revisions, the City will create clear, modern, and implementation-ready standards that support corridor revitalization, improve mobility, reduce conflicts, and provide predictable, efficient development processes aligned with Alpine’s long-term vision.
TAG IV Award: 99,000.  Local Match: $7,200.  Total Project Budget: $106,200.
