Trail Library

about the library

As part of the work of the MPO, MAG helps the counties and communities plan for active transportation in the region. A recent study revealed that active transportation planning is not only beneficial to your health, but to the local economy as well. The study entitled Economic Impacts of Active Transportation aimed to determined the value of investments made in active transportation such as trails, bike lanes, sidewalks, and connection to transit.

Using data that MAG collects, the study determined that Utah Valley generates more than $3.6 million annually in economic activity and health benefits from the Murdock Canal trail. The popular 17-mile long trail connects multiple cities in Utah County, amassing more than 900,000 trips annually. The study was conducted in partnership with 11 other transportation and health agencies in Utah. Download the study to read more about how active transportation planning benefits our community.
